Lifecycle management

The impossible made possible

Textile lifecycle management is defined as the process of production, usage and disposal of an article. It is surprisingly difficult, and over the last two decades much effort has been put into resolving the issues that seriously impacted daily operations of hotels and hospitals.

Unfortunately, it has become clear that no definitive solution has been developed to gain full control of textiles in circulation. The inefficiency in operations has financial implications and, increasingly, has significant environmental consequences. Most textiles items end up as waste, and are an increasing component of landfills, estimated to exceed 100 billion pounds globally.

To that purpose, we developed TaaS: Textiles as a Service, a track and trace system that unlocks fundamental benefits for any industry using industrial textiles. It controls the full lifecycle of the assets, from production and delivery, through usage, to reuse or disposal.

At the core of TaaS is Fides, our UHF RFID-enabled technology platform that identifies ‘connected’ objects, i.e. equipped with a UHF RFID chip , collects data about them, and transmits those data through the Internet of Things with little or no human intervention.

We have developed industry-specific value propositions for all operators in admittedly independent, but very much interconnected industries: hotels, hospitals, laundries and textile manufacturers.

One of the largest financial benefits of TaaS is the option for lease which, to date, has never been a viable concept, as industrial textiles were always considered assets without a residual value, and banks were not interested in financing these products.

However, TaaS gives full visibility of each article during its lifecycle, and as such, a residual value can now be calculated in real time. Thus, we transform what today is treated as a low-value volume article into a high-value asset that can be traded like any other asset with a residual value.
